Kukeri in the 6th Primary School - "Graf N.P. Ignatiev"

The custom of “Kukeri” originated from the Thracians and is one of the few that has survived to this day. Each Kukeri troupe has its own leader. The troupe is dressed in special costumes with scary masks. The games aim to scare away and drive away evil spirits forever through special dances, so that there will be a rich harvest next year and good luck in the home. For fertility and health, the Kukeri perform various symbolic actions such as plowing, sowing, and others.

In different parts of Bulgaria, the Kukeri came out at different times - on Vasilyovden, on cheese Lent, in the month of March, etc. They also have different names: Kukeri, babugeri, pesyaci, mechkari, starci, etc.

Nowadays, Kukerovden is a cheerful holiday, the meaning of which is to recreate the past and bring people together for general joy and fun.

And today, at the initiative of 4th grade students, this custom was recreated at school. The students played the role of puppeteers, they put on costumes, went around every room in the school and chased away the evil forces that were interfering with their learning process.
